About Camping La Colline

Would you like a family holiday where nature, swimming and easy-going outdoor activities come together? Camping La Colline is a four-star family campsite near Virton, in Belgium's attractive Gaume region, close to the French and Luxembourg borders. Set across almost 10 hectares, the campsite occupies a green, gently elevated location with attractive views over the surrounding countryside. The atmosphere is particularly suited to families with younger children, thanks to the outdoor heated swimming pool, separate toddler pool, large playground and summer entertainment programme. Older children can also make use of the football and volleyball facilities, table tennis and pétanque. Spacious pitches, glamping accommodation, mobile homes, bungalows and safari tents give families plenty of choice. And what makes the location special? You are close enough to Virton for everyday shopping and restaurants, yet surrounded by countryside ideal for walking and cycling. The famous Gaume region, often associated with its relatively mild climate and attractive villages, is right on your doorstep. For a day out, would you prefer history or adventure? The magnificent Orval Abbey, the Vauban citadel at Montmédy and the Maginot Line forts are excellent choices, while the wider region offers kayaking, mountain biking and family attractions. The campsite is best suited to families wanting a relaxed outdoor holiday rather than a huge resort-style waterpark. It works particularly well for children aged roughly 3–12, with plenty to keep younger families occupied while parents enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Please note: Groups of young people, whether minors unaccompanied by a legal guardian or adults, are not permitted to stay at the campsite. Some services, activities, or shops are not guaranteed outside of July and August. The times and prices indicated are for guidance only and are subject to change.

Enjoy a refreshing swim and sunny days beside the campsite’s heated outdoor swimming pool, where the water is maintained at a comfortable depth of approximately 90 cm — ideal for relaxed family swimming and cooling off during the warmer months. Little holidaymakers have their own separate outdoor toddler pool, providing a dedicated space for younger children to splash and play. The pool complex is generally open seasonally from approximately 1 May to 15 September, weather permitting, although the exact operating period can vary depending on the season and accommodation provider. With a welcoming heated pool and a separate area for toddlers, it’s a lovely place to unwind, cool off and enjoy carefree family days in the sunshine.

Camping La Colline sits in the scenic Gaume region, a gentler southern corner of the Belgian Ardennes. Within 15 kilometres, expect rolling wooded hills, open meadows, small valleys, streams and peaceful villages. The surrounding landscape combines deciduous and coniferous woodland with agricultural fields and panoramic viewpoints. The nearby Rabais area adds ponds and water landscapes, while the French and Luxembourg borders create an appealing cross-border countryside for walking, cycling and exploring.

“If you are choosing Camping La Colline for a family holiday, I would make the most of its location rather than trying to find everything inside the resort. The great strength here is the combination of a comfortable base and a surprisingly varied region immediately outside the gates. For families with younger children, I would definitely choose accommodation close to the playground and swimming pool if that option is available. The pool is relatively shallow, with the main pool reported at around 90 cm, making it particularly suitable for children who want to splash and play rather than swim serious lengths. The separate toddler area is another useful feature for little ones. For accommodation, the spacious safari tents and glamping options are worth considering if your family likes the camping atmosphere but wants more comfort. Families travelling with older children may prefer a mobile home or larger rental accommodation. One of my favourite suggestions is to set aside a morning for Torgny and another for Orval Abbey. They offer two completely different experiences and both showcase the character of the Gaume region. Montmédy is another excellent choice for a history-focused afternoon. For cyclists and walkers, bring suitable footwear and bikes if possible. The countryside around Virton is ideal for exploring at a slower pace. And if you are travelling with children during July or August, check the entertainment schedule before arrival, as this is when the programme is at its most active. Finally, remember that the campsite is spread over a sizeable, gently hilly area. If you have young children or prefer easy access to facilities, the precise location of your accommodation can make a noticeable difference to your stay.”

A great camp site especially with youngsters

We stayed at this medium-sized campsite for nearly a week, and wished we'd booked-in longer; the layout of the site created really safe spaces for kids to play and get to know each other in the group ...

Very moderate, not worth repeating

Very bad showers and not really clean. Pool overcrowded with kids so nothing for adults. Camping pitches are spacious but campsite is overcrowded, so still little privacy. Would not choose this again ...
