About Camping Sandaya l'Etoile d'Argens

What do you get when a five-star holiday park meets a botanical garden? Sandaya L'Étoile d'Argens: 16 hectares of shaded greenery on the Argens river in Fréjus - Saint-Aygulf, tucked between vineyards, riverbank and Mediterranean. Birdsong comes free of charge, as the whole estate sits in a Natura 2000 zone with its own bird refuge. Where do the kids head when the sun climbs? Straight to the heated outdoor pools: a large main pool, an intermediate pool and a paddling pool for toddlers, while parents claim a free sunbed or slip into one of two adults-only jacuzzis. In July and August the kids club (5-12) and teen club (13-17) take over, followed by concerts, karaoke and themed evenings. Prefer to do absolutely nothing? The spa offers massages and treatments. And the beach? Arrive like a captain. In summer a shuttle boat leaves from the campsite's own pontoon and reaches the fine sand of Esclamandes beach in 20 minutes (an extra fee applies), while the sandy beaches of Saint-Aygulf are about 4 km away by road. Kayaks, canoes and bikes can be hired to explore the wild banks of the Argens. Where will you sleep? Pick a chalet, a cottage or a mobile home, or go for a Kabane lodge on stilts with views over the river, all in air-conditioned comfort. Dogs and cats are welcome too, and with Fréjus 4 km away, a car turns the whole Riviera into your playground. The five-star standard shows in the details: staff glide around on electric carts and the park runs on green energy.

Water is the beating heart of the holiday here. The pool area has three heated outdoor pools: a large main pool of about 300 m², an intermediate pool and a paddling pool of 20 m² for ages 1-3, under 40 cm deep. Two jacuzzis are free and reserved for adults. Sunbeds and parasols are free too, so arrive early in high season. The water is treated with very few chemicals and is kind to skin and eyes, and a swimming instructor keeps watch. House rules: men need tight swim trunks, swim shorts are not allowed, flip-flops stay off the pool deck and inflatable pool toys are not allowed in the pool.

Surroundings

The setting is a pleasing blend of countryside and coast. Around the campsite you'll find vineyards, the green banks of the Argens and a protected Natura 2000 zone, while the Mediterranean and its sandy beaches lie about 4 km away. Fréjus and Saint-Aygulf are close, with Saint-Raphaël, Roquebrune-sur-Argens and Puget-sur-Argens a short drive beyond. Further afield, Grimaud, Saint-Tropez, Cannes, Draguignan and Hyères are all on the day-trip map. Not a mountain in sight: just soft Riviera scenery, with Fréjus town centre about 4 km from the gate.

“We recommend packing proper swim briefs: tight trunks are compulsory for men here, and swim shorts are not allowed in the pool area. We suggest booking the river shuttle in summer for the 20-minute trip to Esclamandes beach; an extra fee applies, but the ride is half the fun. Arrive at the pool early in high season to secure a free sunbed, and leave balls and floats back at your accommodation. We love the Kabane lodges on stilts along the river for families and couples who want to wake up to water views. Families with children aged 5-12 or 13-17 should plan around July and August, when the kids and teen clubs are certain to run. Bring a car: Fréjus town centre is 4 km away and the wider Riviera is yours to explore. Mobile signal is weak, so use the free basic wifi and download maps before you leave home. Light sleepers can relax, as evening entertainment usually wraps up around 23:00 and the park turns peaceful. In spring and autumn, do some of your own catering with fresh bread from the on-site supérette; the restaurants shine most in high season. Travelling with a dog? Let it swim in the dedicated dog area and keep the vaccination record handy.”
