About Camping Sunêlia Les Places Dorées

What makes a family holiday on the Vendée coast really work? Slides for the kids, a beach for everyone and a quiet moment for the grown-ups. Camping Sunêlia Les Places Dorées ticks all three on a 5-hectare, five-star site set between the resort towns of Saint-Jean-de-Monts and Notre-Dame-de-Monts. Start with the water. The heated water park covers more than 2,000 m² and brings together outdoor pools, a covered indoor pool, slides up to 10 m high and an aqua-play area made for little ones. Prefer salt air? The Atlantic beach is about 800 m away, roughly 15 minutes on foot, and the Saint-Jean-de-Monts state forest is only 300 m from the campsite. Bikes can be hired on site, and a cycle path starts 400 m away. Is there anything for teenagers? Absolutely. There is a kids' club for ages 5 to 12, a teen club for 13 and over, creative workshops, sports tournaments and kids' evenings twice a week. After dark come disco, Latino and 80s parties and karaoke, so everyone from 0 to 99 finds a dance floor. Parents can slip away to the free sauna, hammam and whirlpool. Where will you sleep? Choose a spacious Grand Confort pitch of 80 m² for up to six people, with 10 A electricity and water, or a mobile home: Cottage Confort, Sunêlia Prestige or Taos Luxe with its own spa. Dogs and cats are welcome, with rules per accommodation. Our advice: book early for July and August.

The water park is the star of the show: more than 2,000 m² of water with heated outdoor pools, a covered indoor pool, slides up to 10 m high and an aqua-play area for toddlers, open all season. The indoor pool is heated from the start of the season and the outdoor park from early May. Opening hours are 10:00-19:00 in May, June and September and 10:00-20:00 in July and August. Aquagym sessions and water polo tournaments keep teens and parents busy too. Pack the swimwear on top of the suitcase.

The Atlantic beach lies about 800 m from the campsite, roughly 15 minutes on foot, and is part of a sandy stretch of more than 8 km along Saint-Jean-de-Monts. Prefer to pedal? Hire bikes on site and use the cycle path that starts 400 m away. Bring buckets, spades and sun cream.

Start the day with fresh bread and viennoiseries from the on-site bread depot, then settle on the bar terrace for a drink while the children play. The restaurant and the snack bar cover quick bites and takeaway, so a night off from cooking is always possible. Opening times follow the season, so ask at reception on arrival.

The state forest of Saint-Jean-de-Monts is just 300 m from the campsite, and a sandy beach of more than 8 km stretches along the coast. A cycle path starts 400 m away. Resort towns are close by: Saint-Jean-de-Monts and Notre-Dame-de-Monts, plus Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie further along the coast. Nantes is 73 km away for a big-city day. Perfect for families who like both sand and shade, with plenty within a short drive.

“We recommend planning your first day around the water park: it is open 10:00-19:00 in May, June and September and 10:00-20:00 in July and August, with slides reaching 10 m. Walk to the Atlantic beach, about 800 m and 15 minutes from the campsite, and hire bikes on site for the cycle path 400 m away. We suggest a full day for Puy du Fou, about 110 km and 90 minutes by road, and a half day in Nantes, 73 km away. We love the Île d'Yeu day trip: the ferry leaves from Fromentine, about 30 minutes by car. Sign up for the free kids' club (5-12) or teen club (13+) early in your stay, so new friends are made on day one. Kids' evenings run twice a week. Parents should enjoy the free sauna, hammam and whirlpool, and ask about L'Abri Détente at sister campsite L'Abri des Pins. In July and August stays run for 7 nights from Saturday or Sunday, while in low season you can arrive any day for 2 nights or more. Pitches are ready from 14:00, rentals from 16:00. Bringing a dog?
