Camping Les Albères sits at the foot of the Albères massif, where the eastern Pyrenees meet the Mediterranean. Within 15 kilometres, the landscape changes beautifully between wooded foothills, cork-oak and mimosa woodland, vineyards, gently rolling meadows and mountain streams. Towards the coast, the terrain opens into the Roussillon plain and Mediterranean shoreline around Argelès-sur-Mer. The combination of mountains, forest, vineyards and sea makes this corner of southern France particularly attractive for walking, cycling and family excursions.

“Use Camping Les Albères as a base for two different styles of holiday. Spend some days enjoying the pools and facilities without moving the car, then dedicate other days to discovering the mountains, villages and Mediterranean coast. That balance is one of the reasons this location works so well for families. If you are travelling with younger children, make the aquatic area part of your daily routine. The kids will love it. The combination of an outdoor pool, covered heated pool, paddling facilities, waterslide, counter-current river and whirlpool gives children plenty to do, while parents can choose a quieter moment around the pool. The covered heated pool is particularly useful on cooler days. I would also take advantage of the campsite’s proximity to Laroque-des-Albères itself. The village is close enough for an easy outing, and the local area has family-friendly walks designed around games and discovery. One particularly attractive route is a roughly three-kilometre family walk through the old village and surrounding countryside. For a wildlife day, the Vallée des Tortues in Sorède is an excellent choice, especially with younger children. It is only a few minutes away and combines animals, educational activities, play areas and nature. Beach lovers should head towards Argelès-sur-Mer, while those looking for something more atmospheric should continue towards Collioure. For teenagers, I would also check the summer sports and youth programme on arrival, as activities and entertainment are strongest during July and August. Finally, leave room for a mountain morning. The Albères foothills begin virtually at the campsite, so you do not need to plan an elaborate expedition to experience the landscape. A walk followed by an afternoon around the pool is an ideal Les Albères day.”
