Camping Les Flamants Roses sits on the edge of Saint-Nazaire, surrounded by the wonderfully contrasting scenery of the Pyrénées-Orientales. The nearby Étang de Canet-en-Roussillon brings reed beds, wetlands, vineyards and open countryside, with pink flamingos and migrating birds adding a rather glamorous touch. Two cycling routes lead directly from the campsite into the surrounding landscape. Drive towards the coast and the scenery quickly changes to long Mediterranean beaches, seaside promenades and marinas around Canet-en-Roussillon and Saint-Cyprien. Inland, vineyards, Catalan villages and the first foothills of the Pyrenees create an entirely different backdrop.

“For a family holiday, Camping Les Flamants Roses has a particularly useful combination: it is compact enough that most of the important facilities are easy to reach, yet there is enough going on to keep children occupied for several days without getting in the car. The first tip is to make good use of the pool early in the day. The heated main pool is complemented by three slides and a separate paddling area, while recent holiday feedback frequently highlights the availability of sun loungers and the quality of the swimming facilities. In July and August, look out for the evening pool parties too. For families bringing bikes, this is one of the campsite’s strongest features. Two cycling routes begin close to the entrance, giving an easy way to explore the countryside and reach the Canet area without turning every outing into a car journey. If travelling with younger children, check the animation programme on arrival. The kids’ club is aimed at ages 6–12, while the wider programme includes sports, games and evening entertainment for different ages. One practical tip: there is no large campsite supermarket, so stock up before returning to the campsite or use the small local shops in Saint-Nazaire. The village is close enough for everyday essentials. Finally, consider choosing a shady pitch if available. The mature umbrella pines are one of the campsite’s particularly attractive features, and several recent visitors have praised both the shade and spaciousness of the pitches.”
