Toscolano Maderno's historic centre, the Valle delle Cartiere and lakeside villages create an attractive mixture of nature, culture and outdoor adventure.
“My first recommendation is simple: make the most of the lake. Camping Toscolano's strongest feature is its position directly on Lake Garda, and the private lakeside area is only a short walk from the accommodation. The shoreline is mainly pebbly, so we suggest bringing water shoes, particularly for younger children. A swimming pool is available onsite as an excellent alternative when the lake feels too busy or you simply want a change of scenery.
We would also recommend walking into Toscolano Maderno rather than taking the car. The centre is only around 400–500 metres away, with cafés, shops and restaurants, while the lakeside promenade is ideal for an evening family stroll.
If you are travelling with children, check the entertainment programme before arrival. The main animation period is concentrated in the summer, with children's activities, sports tournaments and evening entertainment particularly associated with July and August.
For sightseeing, use the ferries whenever possible. Lake Garda is much more enjoyable when you can combine a boat journey with a visit to another lakeside town. Sirmione, Salò and the villages around the lake all make excellent day trips.
We also suggest allowing time for Valle delle Cartiere, just inland from the campsite. It provides a completely different experience from the lake, with woodland, mountain scenery and the fascinating history of Garda's traditional paper industry.
Finally, remember that Camping Toscolano is a relatively compact, traditional campsite rather than a giant modern holiday resort. That is precisely why we recommend it to families who want lake access, swimming, nature and Italian atmosphere, rather than a huge programme of slides and organised activities. A wonderful place to stay.
We spent our family summer holiday here. Accommodation was clean and well equipped. The location was great with less than a 5 min walk to the lake. Staff were friendly and welcoming.
