About Camping Free Beach

What does a Tuscan beach day look like when the car stays parked? At Camping Free Beach, a 3-star campsite on 9 hectares in Marina di Bibbona, it begins with a 15-minute stroll under the pines. At the end of the path waits a sandy Blue Flag beach, just 450 m away, with free entry and a beach bar. Tired legs on a scorching afternoon? A free shuttle runs in high season. And when the sea has had enough of the children? There are two outdoor pools, one for adults and one for little ones (pack a swimming cap, it is compulsory), plus a playground, game room and toy library. Five-a-side football, volleyball, table tennis and bocce keep the competitive streak busy. From mid-June to the end of August the entertainment team runs mini-club fun and evening programmes. Parents can start the day with coffee and pastries from 06:00 and end it with pizza at the restaurant-pizzeria or an artisan ice cream. Where should the family go for a day out? Thrill-seekers will love Cavallino Matto, 11 km away: Tuscany's largest amusement park, with about 30 rides, 5 roller coasters and 3 water rides. Wine lovers have Bolgheri, 10 km away, while Volterra (48 km), San Gimignano and Pisa's leaning tower (both 70 km) make classic culture days. Nature fans can explore the dunes and pinewood of the Tomboli di Cecina reserve, 7 km away, and a riding stable is 3 km from the gate. Travelling with a four-legged family member? Dogs are welcome, and the Mojito Dog beach is a 15-minute walk through the pines. Our tip: fly into Pisa Galileo Galilei Airport, 67 km away, and you could be toes-in-sand before the sun sets.

The two outdoor pools, one for adults and one for children, are your cool-down option when the sea feels too far or the toddlers need a splash. Sunbeds and parasols are free until they run out, so claim yours early. The pools are not heated, and there is no indoor pool, slide or water park here. A swimming cap is compulsory. They are modest in size and busy at peak hours, so advice is go early or perhaps later in the afternoon. Access is included in the services wristband (€2.50 per person per stay from age 3), and the pools open from May to mid-September, weather permitting. For real splashing room, head to the Blue Flag beach, 450 m away.

Surroundings

Camping Free Beach sits on the edge of the Tombolo pine forest on Tuscany's Etruscan Coast. Countryside comes first: the Tomboli di Cecina nature reserve, with coastal dunes and pinewood, is 7 km away, hill town Bibbona 8 km, wine village Bolgheri 10 km, Casale Marittimo 12 km and Castagneto Carducci 14 km. For a dose of town life, Marina di Bibbona centre is 900 m away, Cecina about 7 km, and Marina di Cecina and San Vincenzo about 8.5 km. Livorno is about 37 km away.

“We recommend packing a swimming cap, because it is compulsory in the pools. Budget for the services wristband too: €2.50 per person per stay from age 3 covers animation, mini-club, pools and the beach shuttle. Book beach sunbeds and umbrellas through reception, as they are not included in your rental. Light sleepers should ask for a unit away from the pool, where programmes start at 10:00, 18:00 and 21:00. We suggest walking to the beach through the pines, about 15 minutes, and saving the free shuttle for hot afternoons and tired legs. Plan your arrival for the afternoon: rental check-in is from 16:00, and cars inside are only allowed 10:00-12:30 and 16:00-18:30. Pair a beach morning with an afternoon at Cavallino Matto, 11 km away and open in spring and summer. Wine lovers should take the 10 km drive to Bolgheri, and culture seekers Volterra at 48 km. Pack mosquito repellent for balmy evenings among the pines, and tell us at booking if a unit near the entrance matters. Travelling with a dog? Declare it at booking and keep the paperwork handy.”

This is not working

Dilapidated bungalow, dusty inside and dirty outside. Positive pool, restaurant, and staff, but shameful location.
