The Salat river runs alongside the campsite, while the village centre is close enough to reach on foot for bread, groceries, a coffee or a relaxed wander. What makes it particularly appealing? There is a heated swimming pool with a retractable cover, waterslides and a paddling area, plus direct river access, a children's playground, pétanque, table tennis, billiards and a sports area. Spacious, shaded pitches suit tents, caravans and motorhomes, while comfortable mobile homes and safari-style tents make family stays easier. Who will enjoy it most? Families with children roughly 4–16 are especially well matched. Younger children have the playground, paddling pool and gentle outdoor activities, while teenagers can swap the pool for hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, climbing or white-water adventures. Nature-loving parents get something equally important: genuine mountain scenery and plenty of opportunities to slow down. And is there anything beyond the campsite? Absolutely. Camping Le Haut Salat features two heated swimming pools, offering a mix of relaxed swimming and family-friendly water fun. The first is a covered outdoor pool, open from 1 April to 30 September, with opening hours of approximately 10:00–20:00. It has a depth of around 0.90–1.40 metres, making it suitable for swimming and relaxing whatever the weather. The second pool forms the campsite’s more playful aquatic area, with an outdoor heated pool, children’s paddling pool and waterslide. It has a depth ranging from approximately 0.25 to 1 metre and is open during the high season from 15 June to 15 September. Together, the two pools provide plenty of choice for both swimmers and younger children looking to make a splash.

Camping Le Haut Salat sits at around 500 metres altitude in the Haut-Couserans, surrounded by the dramatic foothills and forested slopes of the Ariège Pyrenees. Within 15 kilometres, the scenery shifts between wooded mountain valleys, open meadows, rushing streams, waterfalls and high pastureland, with peaks rising impressively beyond. The Salat river runs directly alongside the campsite, while Seix provides a small but genuine village setting within easy walking distance. Nearby Oust, Aulus-les-Bains and the valleys towards Ustou add traditional mountain villages, thermal landscapes and increasingly rugged Pyrenean scenery.

“The biggest advantage of Camping Le Haut Salat is its balance: this is a genuine mountain campsite rather than a holiday complex dropped into a resort. The Salat river is right beside the grounds, Seix is walkable, and the surrounding valleys give you an impressive choice of activities without needing to drive for hours every day. For families, I would make the pool-and-river combination part of the daily routine. The heated pool is compact but well designed, with a cover, waterslides and a children's aquatic area. The river adds a completely different atmosphere, particularly when you simply want to sit beside the water rather than organise another excursion. The pitches are one of the site's strengths. Many are large and shaded, and the mature trees are particularly welcome during hot summer weather. If you are booking a mobile home, remember that the mountain climate can still produce warm afternoons, so a shaded position is worth requesting. I would also keep at least two days completely flexible. One can be for Guzet and the mountain activities, while another can follow the valley towards Aulus-les-Bains or Cagateille. This is not a destination where the best experiences are necessarily found inside an attraction. For supplies, Seix is wonderfully convenient. The local bakery, butcher, small supermarket and pharmacy are close enough to make everyday shopping pleasantly simple. Finally, try the campsite restaurant when operating. Seasonal meals, pizzas and takeaway options make a relaxed evening much easier after a day of mountain adventures.”
