“My first recommendation is simple: bring or hire bicycles. Camping Eden Villages L'Océan & Spa is exceptionally well positioned for exploring Île de Ré without constantly getting back into the car. The cycle paths start conveniently from the campsite, and this is one of those destinations where cycling is genuinely part of the holiday experience rather than simply another activity. For families, we would alternate beach mornings with afternoons around the heated pool. The beach is remarkably close, while the aquatic area provides an easy option when the Atlantic breeze picks up. The paddling pool is particularly useful for younger children. Do make time for the spa, especially if you are travelling with children and want a little quiet time for yourselves. The 300m² wellness area gives the resort a more sophisticated feel than many traditional family campsites. The onsite shop is useful for everyday essentials and fresh bread, but we recommend visiting the local markets and village shops as well. Cycling into La Couarde or further towards Ars-en-Ré is a wonderful way to experience the island’s salt marshes, whitewashed houses and little harbours. For sightseeing, plan Saint-Martin-de-Ré and the Phare des Baleines on separate days. And if the children enjoy boats, reserve a Fort Boyard excursion early during the summer season. Finally, remember that pool swimwear rules are strict for reasons of hygiene and safety: conventional fitted swimwear is required rather than loose swimming shorts.”
