Flower Camping Village Platin-Redoute sits at the eastern gateway to Île de Ré, where the landscape quickly switches between Atlantic shoreline, sandy beaches, low dunes and the colourful oyster-growing coast. Immediately around Rivedoux-Plage, expect flat terrain, maritime vegetation, cycle paths and a distinctly open seaside feel rather than deep countryside. Within 15 kilometres, the scenery becomes wonderfully varied: traditional whitewashed villages, flower-filled lanes, oyster huts, small ports, vineyards, agricultural plots and salt-influenced coastal landscapes. Across the bridge, La Rochelle adds a lively urban contrast, with its harbour, historic centre, restaurants and maritime atmosphere.

“My first piece of advice? Choose your accommodation location carefully. The Platin and La Redoute sections work together as one holiday destination, but the swimming pool is situated in the La Redoute area, across the road from the Platin side. Families with very young children may therefore prefer accommodation that keeps the pool within particularly easy walking distance. The second tip is to bring, or hire, bicycles. Île de Ré is made for two wheels, and the campsite’s position near the entrance to the island makes it particularly convenient for setting off without immediately committing to a long car journey. La Flotte and Saint-Martin-de-Ré make excellent family cycling targets. Guests consistently value the location, beach proximity and easy access to everyday shopping. That is a genuine advantage here: you can be on the beach, picking up supplies or cycling towards another village without turning every small outing into a major expedition. For families with toddlers, the paddling pool is worth making part of the daily routine, while older children will probably favour the larger heated pool and beach. The summer kids’ club is aimed at younger children, making July and August particularly lively. Finally, keep at least one day for La Rochelle. It is close enough for a spontaneous afternoon, but interesting enough to deserve more than a quick photograph from the car window. And leave room for an oyster tasting — you are on Île de Ré, after all.”
